According to labor organizations, private and government workers who contributed to social security are still not aware of their rights to self-sufficiency support.
Workers pay monthly social security contributions throughout the year, but there are few people who know about the right to medical treatment in hospitals and clinics provided for health conditions.
“I paid for social security for 30 years since I worked here. I really don’t understand what it is for. They said it s to health care but I haven’t entitled to it. As I don’t had any major health issues, I just visited the private clinics nearby,” said a government worker who contributed to the social security.
The social security system for domestic workers is applied in both the government and some private sectors. There are many people who know about the social security system in the private sector but there is a lack of knowledge among government employees, except for the departments under the Ministry of Labor.
“There are trade unions for private workers. HR staffs are appointed for that as well so, they often know about the social-security. But they only care about maternity benefits. There are only 3 workers hospitals and welfare clinics provided by the Ministry of Labor, and there are few people who use welfare benefits," said an official of a local labor organization.
The Ministry of Labor announced that local workers covered by social security are being served by 3 social security worker hospitals and more than 100 township welfare clinics. The service for workers covered by social security are connected by 96 township welfare clinics, 61 departmental clinics, 66 contracted general private clinics, 45 obstetrics and gynecology outpatient clinics, 15 hospital and clinics contracted for maternity services and 1 traditional medicine clinic according to the social security project.
Therefore, labors activists suggest workers who are covered by social security should make sure to know and use social security benefits that they contributed monthly or annually from their salary.
