On May 24, the Ministry of Labour of SAC announced that children of workers covered by the Social Security scheme will be eligible for educational expense support.

The maximum monthly salary of insured workers is set at 300,000 kyats to ensure the support amount aligns with current standards. Based on this, the educational assistance will be provided as follows: 10% of the salary (30,000 kyats) for each child attending primary school, 15% (45,000 kyats) for those in middle school, and 25% (75,000 kyats) for those attending university.

Employers must submit applications for educational assistance to the Township Social Security Office on behalf of insured employees who have been officially registered as insured for at least 48 months and have paid contributions for a minimum of 36 months.

The Social Security Office will review and verify the submitted documents. Payments will be transferred to employers via online payment systems if they are correct, and employers are required to distribute the support to the workers.

Workers must apply through their employer within three months from the date of this announcement. Applications submitted after the three-month deadline will not be processed.

If any factory, workplace, or department fails to register workers as required by the Social Security Law or does not contribute accurately based on the actual number of workers, resulting in those workers’ children being denied educational support, the announcement states that—the employer must compensate the Social Security Board on behalf of the workers under Section 69 of the 2012 Social Security Law.

It also stated that workers must apply for educational support through their employer within three months of this announcement and late applications beyond this period will not be accepted.
