It is reported that insured workers who have paid social security contributions can receive medical treatment benefits from social security benefits once they are registered with the social security organization and receive a social security card.
“Workers, have to register for social security when they first joined and the contribution is based on the percentage of their salary. So, although there is no social security registration and contribution yet, they can enjoy medical treatment benefits when they are sick as a registered and insured worker. As for the benefit of medical treatment, insured worker will receive the financial benefit of medical treatment costs according to the specified type after contribution period has been more than 4 to 6 months. The workers who have joined the social security organization and become social security covered workers are that given the same medical treatment benefits by the department regardless of whether they have contributed money or not,” an official of social security team said to the media.
Workers covered by social security insurance are allowed to receive medical treatment for a disease up to a maximum of 26 weeks, and if the contribution period is already 4 months within the 6-month registration period, some of the financial benefits such as medical costs can be obtained from social security by submitting relevant evidence.
Medical treatment benefits cover treatment for illness and maternity related expenses. On the other hand, if the insured worker is a retired pensioner and already paid for the contribution period determined by the social security group, the medical treatment cost will be paid on a percentage basis even though the worker is no longer working.
Insured workers can enjoy medical treatment expenses for illness if they have paid 4 months of social security contributions in the 6 months of the registration period and maternity benefits related to childbirth are available if there have been 6 months of contributions in the 12 months of the registration period. According to the social security law enacted in 2012, if the contribution period exceeds 180 months, the social security organization will pay 50% of the cost of medical treatment to continue receiving medical treatment after retirement in accordance with the according to the restrictions on retirement medical care.
“Financial benefits for illness are 60 percent of the average salary for the periods of medical treatment and inability to work and workers need to submit Social Security Insurance Verification Card, notification from the employer of their illness, medical certificate issued by a doctor, hospital discharge certificates (for going to hospital) and the patient (worker)'s personal application,” the official from social security team continued.
It is also said that insurance civil servants and private workers do not use their social security rights at all due to their lack of knowledge and busyness.
“Although the insurance workers know that the social security is used for health, there are many of them in the country who do not use it as it takes a long time to pay for the social security busyness. That is a loss as they already paid for it. It is necessary for workers to learn more about the issues of the social security law in order to understand about the social security well and to avoid delays in costs due to not knowing the exact details of some documents,” an insurance worker who is a member of Social Security has expressed their opinion.
