Regarding the announcement by the Social Security Organization that the fines to be paid when re-applying for lost/damaged social security cards of workers working in factories and workshops are to be increased, the workers said that this increase in fines is not convenient for them.

In the past, insurance workers who lost their temporary cards only need to pay a fine of 5,000 kyats along with the necessary evidence to re-apply and tarting July 1st, the fine will be increased.

According to the increased fine, it will cost 30,000 kyats for the first time copy application, 50,000 kyats for the second and 100,000 kyats for the third and above time.

“This increase in fines is not convenient for workers. We even have difficulties to pay the former fine. It is not sure for us to work at one workplace for years and maintain the card during these times. No workers would cost the cards to be lost intentionally. Most of them are stolen. Some workers also quitted the job and hired at another before getting the social security card and not get the card if they take leave,” an HR stuff commented.

The statement also stated that, a certificate of losing the card and permit paper will be issued for the convenience of medical treatment during the period of re-applying the lost card.

In Myanmar, there are about 1.2 million workers on social security, and the workers contribute 2 percent of their monthly salary and the employers 3 percent.
