Factory worker (Former trade union member)
Women’s Voice
At present, the law that is enacted is only on paper for domestic workers. Due to the strong union movements before the coup, they were able to complain about their rights being violated and grievances, but now they know that injustice and they have to be quiet. Before the coup, May Day was led by the labor federations and issued demands. The ministers also attended such ceremonies. I know what has been achieved and what is needed. We make ceremonies and we had fun. Now there is no union in the factory anymore.
May Day is also mentioned in the newspaper. Workers are not belonged to May Day. Since the Covid period, employers have reduced salaries due to their business decline. We accept that but they employer changed after the coup. They force us to accept whatever they told us. The negotiation process was halted in this period. They become unilateral decisions.
Wages are really far from the current commodity price. I would say that the Ministry of Labor is turning a blind eye, so the employers love it. In other words, the people who are working during this period are living on a wages which is barely survival. It will not be easy in the long run if prices continue to rise. Currently, there is almost no one to lead. The employer is going to call the army and arrest the leader for any movements. My view is that labor rights will remain on the books as long as the dictatorships rule.
