The Solidarity of Trade Unions Myanmar (STUM) has requested to issue a statement on the 1st of May which is the 134th International Labor Day, on 3 points related to labor rights, including a minimum daily wage of 10,000 kyats for workers.
The requests are to give a minimum daily wage of 10,000 kyats, to provide decent workplace and to get the living wage which cover the commodity prices.
“The minimum wages can be revised only by the government so that we are requesting for the living wage,” said an official from the STUM.
They also said that if prices rise before the minimum wage, a living wage is paid for the workers in the international. They said that the Living Wage is not a new demand, but has been made for years.
At present, oppressive conditions in the workplace are increasing, and the workers are facing serious food and general crises, so they need to get wages due to the situation in the country, and workers should be entitled to benefits that are in line with the time, the statement also stated.
