The European Union (EU) announced on June 20 that it will provide another 15 million euros for humanitarian assistance to Myanmar citizens and refugees at the border due to the rapidly increasing armed conflict in Myanmar.
The European Union (EU) said that 15 million euros will be allocated to help the affected people in the country and refugees fleeing to neighboring countries and the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh will be included in the support plan.
The 15 million euros swill be for urgent need of food, purified drinking water for those fleeing the country and civil war and it will be used to provide emergency health aid and to clear dangerous land mines.
Since the coup in 2021, the European Union has increased its annual support for the crisis in Myanmar, and it will reach 36 million euros by 2024.
There were only around 1 million people in need of humanitarian assistance before the coup but the number has increased to over 18 million in post-coup, and the number of people who have fled their homes and the war has reached over 3 million, according to the EU.
The EU began sending humanitarian aid to Myanmar since 1994, it has provided 19 million euros for humanitarian aid and in early 2024 as well as an additional 2 million euros for regional war-affected people , according to the statement.
