EVER SUNNY INDUSTRIAL COMPANY LTD’s subsidiary of Guiding Star Group Company Limited, a food factory, which made (Sunday, Rich, Grand Palace, Shalala) brand coffee is cutting the social security benefits contributions paid by the labours without letting then have the benefits.
The FGWM group reported that more than 300 labours are working at the factory locates in Shwe Than Lwin Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, and their social security payments are being cut.
For private workers, the Social Security Law states that the employee must contribute 2 percent and the employer 3 percent for social security benefits.
The cut of the social security fee is the money include that both the employee has to pay and the money that the employer has to pay. We are having to pay that the employer should do. We are getting a cut of 2,880 MMKs for labours’ (2) percent and 4,320 MMK for employer’s (3) percent," expressed in the report.
According to the factory's solution dated October 3, the factory has only 180 labours, and the factory has paid both the employer's social security fee and the labours’ social security fees.
Here, the labor force mentioned by the factory is only 180, and it is also stated that these workers are earning more than 2 lakhs MMK per month at the rate of 4800 MMK per day.
According to the statements of the workers who complained to FGWM, pregnant labours are not allowed to take a leave, no responsibility if there is an injury in the workplace, and labeled some labours as day labourers in order to avoid the employee benefits such as casual leave, seniority leave, medical leave, maternity leave, attendance bonus and professional bonus.
It is reported that some of the labours working in the factory are working through an agency, and are not receiving full wages, and are being cut off every month by the agency that helped them hired.
It is known that the labours who work through the agency don’t have the rights to enjoy the benefits and being like the employer rent labours from the agency.
It is also said that they wants the officials to resolve the fact that the labours who involved in the domestic food production and distribution business are losing their labor rights and getting cut excessive wages.
