As the prices of consumer goods have risen exponentially, more and more people are repurchasing used items.
As the value of the kyat depreciates, the prices of general consumer goods have increased. In this situation, the market for selling second-hand goods is contributed not only commercial sellers online, but also individuals selling online.
"There are online groups. I also sell and buy I want. We upload the photo of item, price, phone number and dropping point. But some also export to the address with a fee. The trading are on the raise. An item which cost more than 200,000 kyats outside will cost only under 100,000 kyats here. We can use pretty well if we fix a little. The brand new feels like not worthing. The sellers can’t sell the unfunctional ones. They even have to included the damages details,” said a person who is trading in the online shop groups.
Appliances such as computers, phone, TVs, generators, cabinet, bed, bicycle, shelves and also the kitchen appliances can be purchased in the online groups.
I couldn’t afford the price of the new steel shelves when I open the new store. When was informed by a friend about the online groups, I bought a glass cabinet online for 40,000 or 50,000 kyats. I have to go pick up at Hlaing Thar Yar. Actually, it is around 200,000 kyats. We can’t afford the new ones so we have to buy the second hands. There are many people who is buying like us there. Everything we need is available at there and it is really convenient if we can buy it,” said a resident from Shwe Pyi Thar.
Businesses that have stopped selling second hand construction and household items are reselling. Second-hand items are less than half of the brand new is sold in the market, so more people are using them, according to Japanese second hand appliances sellers.
