People working in tricycle motorcycle transportation service sector increase these days but the drivers said they earn lesser due to gas price rosing.

A bottle of gas is costing 4,000 kyats and storage is also occurring. The drivers said they can’t discount transportation fees in these situations.

Residents from Shwe Pyi Thar, Hlaing Thar Yar and South Dagon prefers tricycle taxi than car taxis and the tricycle transportation service is becoming an employment opportunity. Not only men but women are also working in the tricycle taxi sector.

“A tricycle taxi can earn more than working at the factory. The income is around 10,000 – 20,000 kyats per day. We got more on somedays. But the gas price is rosing as well as other commodity prices. So, we have to raise the transportation fees which makes even the regular customers to take lesser tripes. Another thing is the increased taxis. Drivers seem to have much more number than passengers so it would not be convenient if we don’t have customers,” said a tricycle taxi driver.

The maintenance fees are also raising and the owner fee is around 2,500 kyats per day.

“It cost 500 kyats for a nearby trip before. For now, we charge 700 or 1,000 according to the social status of the customer. We don’t dare too much to accept every trip even if we can earn. My acquittance got robbed when they reached the destination and the customers were girls. The customers are usually working for now. It seems it would not be convenient in long term,” said a tricycle taxi driver.
