Local telecommunication operators have announced that 5G network will be available after experiencing VPN problems and internet unavailability in Myanmar

Since the mid of May, after there have been problems with VPN connecting and using the Myanmar, local telecommunications operators such as MPT and ATOM have announced that 5G network will be available in big cities such as Yangon.

Local operators have announced that they will start testing 5G networks in some parts of Yangon in June. The 5G network will be 10 times faster than the 4G network in use and will be able to transfer data up to 1Gbps per second.

"Using the internet these days is disappointing. The networks are trafficked and it's difficult to use a VPN. MPT says they will upgrade with a 5G network, so we'll have to wait and see if the connections are better or not. I saw reports that the Military Council is cracking down on VPNs. I don't know what it means, but it's causing chaos for people who use the Internet to work," said an online user from Yangon.

MPT, a local operator, is working on a comprehensive plan to connect advanced technology to the 5G network in some parts of Yangon. Another local operator, ATOM, is working with Huawei in Yangon for a 5G network. it is said that ATOM's 5G network will be used in the two big cities of Yangon and Mandalay and as for Mandalay ATOM collaborate with ZTE company.

Internet usage in Myanmar started with 2G and 3G networks in the past decades. 4G network was emerged after 2014 5G network will be tested in 2024.

In the current situation, the phone, Internet lines have been cut, causing difficulties for local residents. in some parts of Myanmar.
