Workers from Max Technology earphone factory which located at Than Din 19 Intersection, Shwe Pyi Thar Township Yangon said that the factory is violating their rights.
Workers said that the factory is taking advantage by manipulating the working hours such as forcing them to come 10 minutes earlier under the title of meeting and take 5 minutes advantage from the lunch time.
The factory don’t have overtime but force the workers to sign that they worked overtime every day so that they could show the inspectors that they can give workers overtime every day.
The workers said that the supervisors are verbally abusing the workers in the factory. They cut from the workers for using the restroom three times a day. Workers who resigned after working until April 30th, are not given the Thingyan holiday fees as well and those who resigned after working until April 6th are not also given the daily wage of 5th May (Sunday).
“We have to work overtime at Sundays continuously but no overtime wages are given. The hourly rates are unfairly asked but there is no bonus for us,” said the worker.
Workers said that the factory is asking unfair apparel outputs from them and they only get paid 144,000 kyats a day including 1,000 kyats daily allowance.
“A nurse is hired in the factory but she is working as a seamstress and she doesn’t get paid as a nurse. She only get paid 10,000 kyats more than the seamstresses. There is no clinic in the factory and the medicines are locked. The Chinese nationals told the nurse not to give medicine to the workers. In our factory, seamstresses don’t have the right to complain the supervisors no matter right or wrong,” said a worker.
“The janitors are requesting to hire another janitor but the factory only keep two janitors for a very wide workspace and they have to go very far from 19th Street intersection to Than Din Market.
Workers said that they want to request that not to force them to sign the fake overtime calls, the supervisors not to verbally abuse them, to give stable salary and the officials to address their workplace disputes.
