Wanxinda Factory Workers Dismissed for Alleged Ties with Supervisor, Later Accused of Drinking During Mediation

Two workers from Wanxinda wallet manufacturing factory were dismissed for allegedly being associated with a supervisor, but during mediation at the township conciliation office, the employer claimed the dismissal was due to alcohol consumption, according to workers.

HR department staff informed the two workers that they were being called to the office in the morning of June 16, so they went, the workers said.

“When we got to the office, the manager said, ‘You two are fired for being associated with the supervisor,’ and then we were fired,” they said.

The two dismissed workers were from sewing department with nearly five months of service, according to a post by the Confederation of Trade Unions Myanmar (CTUM) on its social media page.

On June 20, during mediation at the township conciliation office regarding the dismissal, Wanxinda (Myanmar) management claimed the three workers were fired for drinking alcohol, according to the workers.

The mediation session has been rescheduled, and the factory said it would bring witnesses on that day, the workers said.

Wanxinda (Myanmar) Travel Good Co., Ltd was established in 2021, and it began operations in 2022.

The factory is a 100 percent foreign-investment type and is located at Bo Taik Chun Road, Wah Tar Yar Industrial Zone, Shwepyithar Township, Yangon.
