According to the local residents, women in the townships of Yangon Region are being enumerated for the 5th batch of military conscription.
It is said that the enumeration includes not only single women but also married women and mothers of children.
"Married women and mothers of children are counted in our street. Its not like enumeration but like the lottery pick. The warden told us. Mothers of children who are 10 years old and older are too included. The women on the list are around 20 years old They are scared to hear that they are going to serve in the military. Even the men are not comfortable, and the women are more worried," said a resident of Hlaing Thar Yar Township.
According to the Junta’s Military Conscription Law, the military council enlists men between the ages of 18 and 35 and Women between the ages of 18 and 27 are set to serve in the military, and it is said that women will start enlisting in the 5th Batch and they are starting the enumeration on ground.
