Workers at the Double Packing Myanmar factory, located in the Anawrahta Industrial Zone in Hlaing Thar Yar Township, say they receive only two days off per month. The factory operates in day and night shifts, and workers report getting just one or two days of rest each month.

“At most, we get two days off per month—sometimes just one. Rest is never granted even if we feel unwell. If we don’t show up, they say we’re skipping work on purpose and give us a warning,” said one female worker.

Although workers sign an EC contract after completing a three-month probationary period, around 60 workers are not officially designated as permanent employees.

“These 60 workers are not recognized as official employees, even though they do the same work as existing workers. But they receive only 1,000 kyats per day from the ministry instructed subsidy,” a worker explained.

They further noted that only if the factory desires will a worker be officially registered as an employee.

Workers say the factory arbitrarily changes shift schedules between day and night, and they are not informed in advance which days they will have off.

Although the factory provides meals, workers say the food is often too hard or too soggy and not suitable for consumption.

“We either have to pay a 5,000 kyat fine or get a warning if we don’t eat the meal provided,” they said.

Workers claim that the factory does not take responsibility and instead places the burden on shift leaders when workplace injuries occur.

Double Packing Myanmar is owned by Taiwanese national and employs over 1,000 workers, manufacturing plastic products under the Thank You brand.
