Workers in Myanmar Bestex factory are working for overtime for more than 30 hours in a week

According to the workers from Myanmar Bestex factory, which is making clothing for EU brands, they have to work over time for 36 hours in every week from 7am to 8 pm.

In current situation although the ministry of labor affairs under military regime limited only 20 hours of overtime works for the factory workers, the Myanmar Bestex factory is neglecting the regulations and calls 36 hours overtime in every week.

This impose negative effects over the health of workers and when workers absent because of their health situations, and when they are absent, the factory reduced their salary scale. In the current situation, according to the interview with IWFM president,most of the Myanmar Garment factories are reducing the number of workers and instead,they forcing the workers to work for long overtime hours, generating profits for them while neglecting the labor rights of workers.

The Myanmar Bestex factory is owned by a Chinese business group and located in Hlaing Thar Yar township in Yangon. According to recent documents from Myanmar Labor News, the factory have over 600 workers making the clothing for EU brands including MOHITO,Sinsay ၊ OVS and RBX.
