Starting from June 6, 2024, PJ passports for people working abroad will no longer be allowed to apply for conversion to PV passports held by those traveling abroad, so those who booked online to apply for a conversion of passport type will lose their bank deposits.

They said that they have to pay a one-time bank deposit of 35,000 kyats to have to make an appointment online for passport conversion process.

"I submitted a QR booking to convert from PJ to PV. I had an appointment 8 months ago. Now that the remaining PJ book expires on June 6th, I will not be able to convert the remaining PJ to PV. The bank deposit of 35,000 kyats when I submitted the QR has lost. The law is changing every day, and the people are suffering," said a person who made an appointment to apply for a passport conversion.

Previously, it was possible to converse it to PV type even before the PJ passport 5 year’s term haven’t expired yet but related to the restrictions on the right of men to work abroad, conversing from an unexpired PJ passport to a PV passport is not allowed anymore.

"They don’t allow to converse PJ to PV passport even it only takes a day to expire. Those who posted the QR before will lose their money," said a person close to the passport office.

Since the military council has banned men between the ages of 23 and 31 living in Myanmar to legally work abroad, they have also banned the conversion to PV passport type on June 6th.
