It is reported that there are physical abuses and slanders against workers in the SYNER GARMENT factory which locates between Debayin Secretary Assistant Road, between A Sint Myint and Bogyoke, Hlaing Thar Yar Township.

The garment labours at the factory are being forced to work overtime without a day off even on Sunday, which is a holiday. It is reported that only a few labours get overtime pay, and most of them work without overtime pay.

“This week, we had to work continuously until 8pm. Even on Sunday too. labours are all exhausted. We are tired. All factory workers have to work on working days. They rest on Sunday and do homework. So that they don’t come on Sunday. Those were told not to come anymore. A girl even demoted to the helper from the cavity. Almost everyone is working for free. They are supposed to let go of us in 18:30 PM but forced us until 20:00. Most cavities don’t get overtime fees except the cutting lines. Some do but most don’t. Always hearing from outside that factory often forced free overtime. Most people don't want to work there,” said a labour.

The labours at that factory have been working overtime without pay for a long time, but they fired them for not working overtime on the Sunday weekend. It is reported that the demotions and slanderers have been perpetrated for about two months since the All Super arrived.

“Working overtime for free is since the past but slanders and abasements came to happen only after this all super recircuited. It has been two months. There are 3 all supers but only she does like this. Not allowing us gate pass too. She made us sign warning if we don’t work on Sunday and firing and demoting upon that too. There have been 3 people who have been fired for not working on Sunday,” she said.

The factory has about 800 labours and manufacturing warm clothes, and the labours say that they are having difficulty working because there is no solution to the violations and coercion in the workplace.

“All labours from All Super Ma (Miss) –‘s line sworn which is not in accordance with the law. She called us “Whore”. She didn’t teach some young labours at first but in stead she yell if they made some mistakes. She pulled their hairs. The juniors are tolerating only because they are scare,” said the labour.

Due to the violation of rights in the workplace, it is difficult to file a complaint with the relevant departments and the labours said that they wanted them to solve the problem so that they would not be forced to do so and would not be forced to work overtime for free. And they also want to give them a leave of absence and holidays.
