It is reported that the military council has said that they will prevent PV passport holders to work in foreign countries as the number of people who changing their passports from (PJ) to (PV) increase due to age restriction to work abroad.
“Young people who are within the restricted age limit are increasingly making appointments change passport type from (PJ) instead of (PV). Broker charges more than before. Now that the military council is no longer allowing the reversing the passport type from (PJ) to (PV), so the under table prices rise to over 10 lakhs kyats. So, they should control this,” said a person who is in the business of sending workers abroad.
It will be mandatory to prevent people from going to work in foreign countries with a visit passport (PV), and agencies that send workers to foreign countries will be strictly enforced to check if the workers are returned 25% of their salaries to their families every month, said Myint Naung, Minister of Labor of the Military Council and Chairman of the Myanmar Overseas Employment Services Association (MOEAA) on July 6th during a meeting between the agencies at Yangon Melia Hotel.
"They want to shut down workers from working with PV passport. The other thing is to make it mandatory to check if the workers are returned 25% of their salaries to their families every month via the official banks. This is to crack down on Hyundai remittances. They emphasized those two points," said an official of the foreign employment agency.
It is reported that the military council pressured the agencies to sign the contract with both the workers who are working at abroad and the workers who are going to go to work, to transfer 25 percent of the salary to the family through the military council's banks and to pay a tax of 2 percent before leaving abroad.
Due to the lack of jobs, no wage increases and political instability after the military coup in Myanmar, more and more people are leaving to work in foreign countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan and South Korea.
After the Military Council issued an order for military service, all men between the ages of 23 and 32 are not allowed anymore to go to work in foreign countries with a PJ employment passport.
After that, the number of people who wanted to change from (Passport for Job-PJ) to (Passport for Visit-PV) to go abroad increased and the processes were restricted since June 6th. Even after the restriction, the brokers are still serving the passport reversing with under table methods by charging from 10 to 12 lakh kyats.
