The Chinese-owned S-M MYANMAR Garment CO,LTD factory which locates in Shwe Than Lwin Industrial Zone (4) Hlaing Thar Yar Township has violated labours’ rights and forced them in workplace, according to the labours.
The employer violated the labours’ legal rights such as not providing casual leave, social security medical leave and if the labours miss a day of work due to illness, they will be cut daily wages 7,000 MMK, 5200 MMK, and attendance bonus 20,000 MMK. The labour said that the employer pressured them to resign their own if they take leaves.
The factory has over 200 labour forces and manufacturing Mayrol brand Jackets.
The labours were getting professional fees such as 90,000 MMK for A++, 70,000 MMK for A+, 50,000 MMK for A, 30,000 for B and 20,000 for C grades and the daily wages raises were ranges from 5,200 MMK to 7,000 MMK. But the labour gets less paid even though the daily wages were raised but because of the professional fees are reduced for 70,000 MMK such as 20,000 MMK for A++, A+ and A and 10,000 for B and C grades
And the labours are also forced to manufacture the impossible fabric standards they ask, to produce 35 fabric units in a cavity with 40 people including the super, to manufacture the difficult jackets, resign if they can’t meet the standards and not having a break time due to unfair workload and men power. The all super and supers discriminate and swears them if they don’t meet the standards too.
The underage day labourers are hired as HP and reassign to day labours if they take a leave just a day after promoting to monthly-labours and pay their salary with the rate of 3,600 MMK per day, not calculating the Sunday wages as the raised rates, paying only 4,800 a day and not paying for the Sunday too.
It is also reported that the workers were told that if they do not work overtime on their days off which means they do not comply with the rules set by the factory, they have to quit of their own volition.
Due to the violations, the labours appeals are to give the professional fee with previous rates, to survey their desire upon calling overtime, not to force it, the supers and all supers to not use slanders and discriminate the labours, to calculate the Sunday wages on the salary and to give the salary in the working hours.
