The human trafficking business that recruits Chinese men’s wives is growing again at the China-Myanmar border, and it is seen that both those who recruiter and applicants are doing it openly. The recruiter told that they would get 150, 180 lakhs for being wife of a Chinese man for 3 months. Some worked even with 100 lakhs. I feel sad when the women themselves are willing to do. And the wife is shared by around 3 friends. Burmese women shouldn’t trust them, Don’t sold yourself with around 100 lakhs. You would be in trouble after that,” a jewelry dealer from the Chinese border said.
Human trafficking brokers are recruiting from Facebook and WeChat social networking sites such as Muse-Shwe Li-Jie Gong employment groups to purchase Chinese men’s wives, and there are many female workers who say "Interested, please contact me".
Such activities were done secretly in the past, but due to the scarcity of local jobs in Myanmar and the political situation in the country after the military coup, many Burmese women who want to work as housekeepers believe in the incentives of legal marriage with a lot of money, and many Burmese women are being trafficked.
“We have difficulties to help inside the mainland. There are many requests from them to help. But we can only help with limits. The Chinese will confiscate all the documents of those women. Some women are physically assaulted. Not only them but they have to give birth as well. Good Chinese rich man is hard to find. Its very difficult to help them if they are in middle or northern China. We can’t track so don’t chose that path,” said a local resident.
Due to the lack of jobs and the political situation in Myanmar, there are many cases of Burmese women being sold as Chinese men’s wives in northern and central China, after arriving at the China-Myanmar border to work with one week border pass from Muse. There are also many women who chose with their consents and majority of them are from Mandalay, Sagaing and Magwe divisions.
A resident said that it is difficult to deal with the current human – trafficking cases of being sold as Chinese men’s wives, and if they are sold to places like northern and central China, it will be very difficult if the human trafficking organizations from China and Myanmar have linked with each other. Therefore, they said that they want to warn not to accept the financial incentives
