On March 24, the Ministry of Labour of the military council announced that private overseas employment agencies will only be allowed to submit job offer requests for up to 10 workers per month while there will be no limit on the number of workers sent under the EPS system by the state-run agency for South Korea.

Myanmar workers going to South Korea are mainly sent through the Public Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) under the EPS system after passing the Korean language proficiency test. These workers are sent under a G-to-G agreement.). Workers are currently sent by licensed private overseas employment agencies for the shipyard sector (E-7-3 visa) and the fishing sector (E-10-2 visa.

There is no restriction on the number of workers sent through the G-to-G program according to the latest announcement concerning procedures for sending workers to South Korea. However, each agency is only allowed to submit job offers for up to 10 workers per month for jobs arranged through private agencies.

“Since the government is directly involved in sending workers, there’s no limitation for South Korea. But they’ll now only accept 10 per agency. Most workers go through the EPS system, and only a few go with E-7 or E-10 visas. There also aren’t many agencies sending workers through those categories. So, even though they’re limiting the number, it’s unlikely to cause serious issues like with other countries,” said a representative from a licensed agency.

The Ministry of Labour also informed that agencies which submitted demand letters for South Korea before January 30, 2025, with more than 10 workers, must revise and resubmit those documents starting from March 25. New job offer submissions for South Korea will be accepted starting on May 2.

The military council’s Ministry of Labour has been regularly issuing announcements setting limits on the number of jobs offers by country—50 workers per agency for Thailand, 15 for Japan, and now 10 for South Korea. Further announcements regarding Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries are expected to follow soon.
