The Ministry of Labor informed that an overseas employment identification card - OWIC card will be issued only if there is proof that 25 percent of his salary has been remitted to his family for workers returning from abroad on leave.

Some of those who have returned from abroad for various reasons have returned to Myanmar but have difficulties such as not yet paid income tax and not having an official money transition to their family or to their own bank account.

Therefore, the notice states that those who have difficulties in applying for an OWIC card due to not yet having paid income tax can pay taxes in North Dagon, Insein, Kamarut and other relevant tax offices.

If the family remittance has not been officially transferred from abroad, workers can make an OWIC card by transferring to their current bank account and showing proof of transmission via the international money transfers such as Western Union, IME, RIA and Money Gram with their name by employer or acquittance in aborad.

"If a worker get a salary of 800,000 kyats in Thailand, 25% of the 25% will be 200,000. If they transfer 800,000, it will cover 4 months. The implementation period will start from September 2023, so they can handle the transition by their own plan," said an official.

The Overseas Employment Identification Card (OWIC) is a card that all those legally traveling abroad must apply for, and it is valid for five years. PJ type passport holders will not be allowed to go to work abroad if they cannot show the OWIC card.
