Myanmar workers from Malaysia who want to return to Myanmar with CI can apply for an exit pass during the period where the fines are waived by the Malaysian government.

Myanmar workers in Malaysia who have incomplete credentials and who will return to Myanmar with a Certificate of Identity (CI) issued by the Myanmar Embassy, ​​were notified by the Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on May 21 to apply for an exit pass at the Malaysian immigration offices during the period when the Malaysian government is waiving fines. 

The Malaysian government announced that foreigners who illegally entered Malaysia from March 1 to December 31, 2024, can leave Malaysia within 14 days after paying a fixed fine of 500 ringgit and 100 ringgit for an exit pass at the Malaysian immigration offices with a passport or CI to the country of origin and a return flight ticket.

Currently, there is agendas to arrest illegal foreign workers in Malaysia, and it is reported that many Myanmar nationals are being arrested with incomplete documents.

"There are too many arrests these days, those who would go back with incomplete documents should apply for an exit pass because if they are arrested, they are going to be sentenced to prison. Now is the time when the Malaysian government allows them to pay the fine and take the plane back safely," said a Myanmar worker in Malaysia.

The Myanmar embassy has informed that Myanmar nationals who have obtained an exit pass at the Malaysian immigration office should obtain a passport or CI document, air ticket and the acceptance letter with the fine, acceptance paper with paid fines at the Malaysian immigration and the exit pass that allows to leave Malaysia in case they are caught before the check-in date to leave Malaysia to exempt from arrest. 

In addition, the Myanmar Embassy further informed that the fine of 500 ringgit and exit pass 100 ringgit to be paid at the offices in Malaysia must be paid by credit card / debit card only.
