Military Junta Sends 24 Myanmar Workers to Russia

The military junta’s Ministry of Labour announced on March 5 that it had sent 24 Myanmar workers to Russia as part of a pilot project for employment opportunities in the country.

The workers were deployed to Joint-Stock Company ‘Inturd’ Co., Ltd in the Russian Federation through an arrangement by Vista International Co., Ltd, a licensed overseas employment agency. Out of a total of 54 skilled workers, 24 were sent under the pilot project, according to the announcement.

The workers signed employment contracts with their employers on February 28. On March 3, they attended a pre-departure orientation training and were issued Overseas Workers Identity Cards (OWIC). They were then sent to Russia on March 5. However, the military junta’s Ministry of Labour has not disclosed which specific industries or job roles these 24 Myanmar workers will be employed in.

The military junta has been negotiating with Russia’s Ministry of Labour and Social Protection to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for labor cooperation. However, the MoU has not yet been signed according to the junta’s statement.
