Cargo ship carrying Myanmar nationals caught fire near Koh Tao Island in Thailand

It is reported that a 3-story cargo ship carrying Myanmar nationals caught fire in the sea near Koh Tao Island in Surat Thani Province, Thailand.

“There were more than 100 people including Myanmar, Thai and foreigners. They lost their phones and documents as they have to run for their life,” said a Myanmar national who live in Thailand.

The ship left Surat Thani on the evening of April 3rd. On April 4th, at 1:00 p.m., the fire broke out before reaching the Koh Tao Island of Koh Pha Ngan Township.

There were 97 travelers including Thais, foreigners and Myanmar nationals on the ship that caught fire. There were 11 crew members on the boat, and the rescue team was able to rescue all of them unharmed, but the cars, motorcycles and items  that was brought on board the ship were damaged.
