A Burmese youth from the cargo ship fire near Koh Tao Island is missing

It is reported that a Burmese youth is still missing after a 3-story cargo ship caught fire in the sea near Koh Tao Island, Surat Thani Province, Thailand.

The missing person is Chit Naing Aung (AKA) Wat Gyi and he came to work at Surat Thani. And he jumped out of the ship during the incident and still couldn’t find him yet. A complaint for his missing have been reported.

“Ko Wat Gyi is lost. He is from Myeik and go to work at Surat Thani, He jumped out when the ship caught fire. We saw that on the footage videos and he is still missing. We also heard that another girl is also missing,” said a person who is close to the individual’s family.

The ship left Surat Thani at around 3:00 pm at April 3rd and it was aimed to arrive Koh Tao Island, Koh Phangan Township in the morning of April 4th but the fire incident started to happen before reaching Koh Tao Island. 

There were 97 passengers including Myanmar nationals, Thai nationals and foreigners, and 11 crew members on the boat, and the rescue team was able to rescue all of them unharmed, but according to people close to the victim's family, some Burmese nationals are still missing.
