The official from WAG group said that the employer had given 200,000 Baht compensation for Myanmar migrant worker who lost their life at the SS & P. Design and Build Construction Co.,LTD construction side at Bangkok, Thailand.
“They only give 30,000 baht initially, according to his cousin. The body is at the hospital when we reached there. And there is no precision upon handling the case. It was said the worker dead in the dorm while he actually lost his life at the construction. The employer is a constructor. The worker’s parents are from Anyar Region (Upper Myanmar). So its hard for them to come,” they said.
The worker Ko Aung Lwin Oo, who lost his life doesn’t have work permits and documents in Thailand and the death certificate doesn’t say that he died in the construction site but in his room.

There are nearly a hundred of Myanmar workers in the workplace, and the WAG group does not want to accept the 200,000 baht, but is trying to negotiate to get the compensations according to the law of Thailand. But the WAG official also said that there are other things that need to be taken into account, such as the wishes of the family of the victim.
“They negotiated to settle amicably with baht 200,000 by a Thai speaking person. The worker’s parents have difficulties to come so they request to arrange a proper funeral. The compensation was raised to Baht 200,000 from Baht 30,000 after negotiating. We don’t want to accept but only Myanmar workers will suffer if inspectors come to the workplace,” they said.
