According to the worker, ZHEJLANG NEWWAY(MYANMAR) garment factory, a Chinese national owned factory which locates at Bamaw A Twin Wun Street, Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township is asking excessive fabric outputs from the workers and pressurizing if they can’t finish.
The factory is manufacturing Japanese order fabrics pants and FSBN and CNTMP brands and there is no trade union in the factory.
The current wages are 5,800 kyats daily wages, 1,400 kyats per hour of overtime, 20,000 kyats attendance bonus and professional fees are set as 40,000 kyats for A, 30,000 for B and 20,000 for C. T
The violations are excessively demanding fabric targets from the workers with the rate of 500 fabrics within working hours from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m and including overtime. The workers are having difficulties as the all supers and supers are verbally abusing for not finishing the targets.
The foreigners are interfering in the factory issues and verbally abusing the workers together with the interpreters.
The workers said that their attendance bonus and professionality fees are cut for taking medical and casual leaves as they are not entitled to legal leaves and they address their difficulties that being cut 30,000 from the salary for missing a day of work and cut 20,000 from the attendance bonus for taking a gate pass.
“We only take casual leaves on emergency issues. No one wants to take without any reasons. The foreigners and supers intimidated that professional fees will be cut for that. There are no safety measures in the factory. The fabric cases closed the emergency exists. We have to work in a very hot temperature in the factory.
The workers appeals are to ask only the fabric target they could sew, the foreigners and interpreters not to manage them directly, not to cut attendance bonus and professional fees for taking legal leaves, not to cut attendance bonus for taking gate pass, the all supers and supers to not verbally abuse, to provide heat-cold balance work condition and to provide safety measures in the workplace.
