Most of the local youths had gone to the foreign countries to work after the coup d'état.

Some people think that there will be financial extortion and airport blockage for those who would go to abroad due to the current military conscription law.

People who were preparing to go to work in foreign countries especially the youths are causing anxiety due to the announcement of the military conscription law by the state run media.

The Military Council announced on state television that the National Military Service Law enacted in 2010 will come into effect on February 10, 2024.

In this situation, young people who are old enough to serve in the military are worrying if they are prohibited from going abroad to work.

"I'm waiting to go to Japan for now. I should be leaving in about next two months. Right now, I've to worry for the military service news. I saw the news. It's all the worse as they're going to prohibit people from going abroad. It's not possible to survive with the income in this country for the long term. It would be really uncomfortable if I'd be prohibited from going abroad,” said one person waiting to go to work in Japan.

Both men and women are required to serve according to the military service law. Men between age 18 to 35 and women between 18 to 27 are set as the military age but for male experts its up to 45 and 35 for female experts.

Religious workers, married women, single mom, physically disabled, those deemed unfit for military service by the Army Medical Examination Board, and those who have been exempted by an order issued by the Central Militia Recruitment Board are said to be the exemption from military service.

"I'm worried. I was preparing to go to abroad because I don’t even like the normal situations. Now, it's worse as we have to serve in the military. There was a free way to go abroad before. Now I'm worrying if they block that way," said a person attending a training course to work in South Korea.
