The workers from Dixinda Garment factory which locates near Thama Kone, Anawrahtar Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township is forcing excessive overtime and intimidating them with their employment salability if they refuse to work overtime.

The factory which is operating with more than 1,400 workers do not have a trade union as well and it is a Chinese national owned factory which is manufacturing KIDS SPORTS brand garments.

The factory is asking for excessive output such as 120 fabrics per hour from a cavity with more than 40 workers. The workers are being asked 1,200 fabrics per 10 hours and all supers and supers are verbally abusing them for not getting the demanded outputs.

“They don’t inform the overtime in advance. We have to work all month including mandatory all night overtimes. They said we don’t need to come here if we can’t work. They discriminate against and fire the workers who don’t work overtime. We have no choice but to follow their orders. We even have to work 200 hours of overtime per month. We have concerns too as the military is conscripting the people,” said the worker.

According to the workers, their healths are badly affected due to extensive overtime without a break session and furthermore, they are not entitled to legal leaves and taking leave a day cost them 5,800 kyats daily wages and 30,000 kyats attendance bonus. And they hold grudges upon the workers who take leaves as well.

Many day laborers are hired and they are dismissed illegally if they are no longer needed and the day laborers are told in advanced to hide whenever there is inspection to come and some workers are taught to lie the inspectors making them to notify the workplace violations.

Although the working hour starts at 8:00 a.m. the supers and all supers usually force them to start at 7:30 a.m.

The workers request are the employer to give them legal leaves, not to call overtime without their consents, to assign tasks only during the working hours and the all supers and supers not to verbally abuse the workers.
