Day laborers from Chinese national owned Sunrise Myanmar Fashion garment factory said that they are being violated and not appointed as permanent stuffs although working for more than 3 months or in 6 months.

The factory is located at Kyauk Sein Road, Thardukan Industrial Zone 4, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon region and manufacturing Recycle and CLOSSHI Biz brand apparals.

“The working hours are from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm and the wages are paid weekly. They said that we will get paid 8,200 kyats per day and other benefits but get paid only 5,600 kyats per day. We work from Monday to Saturday and we don’t get paid wages for the half of Saturday. We don’t get paid for Sunday day off as we are labeled as day laborers. We get paid 1,400 kyats overtime per hour on weekdays. Permanent workers get paid 8,200 kyats daily wages, attendance bonus, subsidy and 1,800 kyats overtime per hour. We are working for more than 3 months but not yet appointed as permanent,” said a worker.

There are around 60 day laborers hired in the factory and they are losing monthly wages rights, leave benefits and subsidies.

“We are working the same tasks with other workers but we don’t get paid in salary slip. Our names are just written on a paper and asked to sign. We should be get paid the same wages and allowed other benefits as others but not yet until now. There is a workplace coordination committee appointed by the employer but they don’t resolve the issues related to labour rights and they are biased towards the employer,” said a day laborer who suffered.

Sunrise Myanmar Fashion garment factory day laborers are demanding 8,200 kyats daily wages for all workers, to appoint day laborers as permanent stuffs after working for 3 months, to pay the remaining half day wages of Saturdays of day laborers with back date calculation, to allow paid off day on Sunday and public holidays and to pay the day laborers by salary slip.
