The workers from the Chinese national owned SAUNG OO SHWE NAY garment factory which locates in Ngwe Pinle Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township said that there are ongoing workplace disputes in the factory and they want resolvents in accordance with the EC contract.

There is no trade union in the factory and the workers said that they are being discriminated regarding the departments and cavities shift.

The factory is manufacturing H&M brands with more than 2,000 workers and the current wages are 5,800 kyats daily wages, 20,000 kyats attendance bonus and the overtime fees of 1,450 kyats per hour and the expert fees are A+(35,000) kyats, A(25,000) kyats and B(10,000) kyats.

“The violations are discriminating the workers. There are from line No.13 to more than 30 in the factory B and the employer assign fabrics to other lines except line No.22. The workers are not satisfied as the factory does not consider the workers’ consents although workers have talked with the employee. Those workers signed the EC contract with the name of line No.22. I think they are doing the workers to resign on their own accord. They are forbidding a single line to work and also intimidate that they will not pay daily wages,” said the worker.

The workers said that they want to request not to move the workers’ to other departments without their consents during the disputes, to pay the daily wages also for the days the employers can’t assign works, to follow the EC contract and the employer to not discriminate the workers.
