#LETTER

I would like to share about the current situation in our workplace. The factory is Peak Outdoor, located at Plot A6, Myo Zin Yaung Industrial Zone.

Recently, they’ve announced that if a worker is absent for one day, they will not receive pay for the official holidays in that month starting from this April. This was conveyed directly by the line supervisors during a meeting with sewing workers.

Overtime is also being frequently imposed. We’re not allowed to request gate passes to leave even when we are unwell.

We are not told the exact duration of overtime until the very last moment, so it’s impossible to plan anything like cooking dinner. There’s no fixed schedule anymore.

One day after the factory was mentioned on Myanmar Labour News, they told us that starting April 1, they would let us go at 6:30 PM. But they let us go only at 7:30 PM again the next day.

We workers never know in advance how long overtime will be, so we are always in a state of uncertainty. There are safety concerns as well. Is it really legal to say we’ll lose holiday pay if we are absent for just one day?

Although there is a WCC (Workplace Coordinating Committee), they have not helped us or mediated anything.

We are requesting support and assistance.

(Note: Though Peak Outdoor Factory has signed EC (Employment Contracts) with workers, they haven’t provided any copies to the workers. Workers are also being forced to sign warning letters for absences. Overtime is being imposed until 8:30 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, without any prior notice, according to what workers have shared.)
