Workers at Bright Future Gt Appeal garment factory, are being forced to work overnight overtime daily without their consent, according to the Solidarity Trade Union of Myanmar (STUM).

Workers reported the forced overtime to STUM on the night of July 22.

“They’ve been calling for overnight overtime since the very beginning. It’s happening at the factory branch in Thadukan Industrial Zone. They’re forcing us into overtime,” they said.

The factory is reportedly manufacturing the Japanese fashion brand Bodyfine. According to Myanmar labour law, weekly overtime must not exceed 20 hours. The regular work week is set at 44 hours with one rest day.

In June, workers reported to STUM that workers in factories across Shwepyitha Township were being called for overnight overtime, and that they were worried about health problems as a result.

Bright Future Gt Apparel Company Limited is located near Thabawa Bus Stop on Pale Road, Thadukan Industrial Zone, Shwepyitha Township, Yangon.
