Myanmar workers from Fu Cheng Garment factory at Yin Jiang industrial Zone, China said that they are being asked for excessive overtime which they have to work for free until 10:00 pm if they don’t finish the demands; causing them difficulties.

The factory which is owned by a Chinese national manufactures SPYDER ACTIVE warm jackets.

A production line with 25 people are asked for 700 fabrics per hour which leads them to work until 10:00 pm for free.

Workers are also forced to work on Sundays to be able to finish the demands without getting paid. The Myanmar national workers from Fu Cheng garment factory ask assistant from Industrial Workers’ Federation of Myanmar – IWFM regarding the violations.

“The workers are working without taking a break but the supervisors verbally abuse us and workers who can’t bare went back to home country. We are usually forced to work overtime for free without getting paid with the reasons of we don’t finish the demands. In September. we went to the office to told that we will go back to Myanmar and the employer said they would reconsider the fabric output demands and we have to pay compensation to go back to Myanmar,” a worker said.

Workers have to deposit their one month salary which is promised to be return if they resigned but the leave benefits are denied while they are working.

“We don’t get leave here and wages are cut if we miss a day. We don’t know how much is our daily wages. They said we are getting paid according to output quantity. 700,000 mmk is the farthest we can earn. We neither get overtime fee or leave,” a worker explained.

The workers demands are to

1-     To ask only for possible fabric output

2-     To not force overtime until 9:00 pm for free

3-     The supervisors to not verbally abuse the workers

4-     To have transparency on wages
