Workers at Chai Moon Sports (Myanmar) garment factory located in Ward 13, Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, are being forced to sign warning letters if they refuse to work overtime on days off, and some have even been dismissed from their jobs.

“They make us sign a warning letter If we don’t work overtime on days off. On days when the garments are really urgent, they call overnight overtime—no rest allowed—we have to come in the next morning. They demand a high garment quota, and we don’t even get proper break time, we just keep sewing. They keep calling for overtime. They collect signatures for overtime. We get scolded if we don’t sign,” a worker said.

Workers also say there’s discrimination in the workplace and that easy, arbitrary dismissals are creating job insecurity.

“Line supervisor Daw ---- discriminates against workers. She fires anyone she doesn’t like. After one or two days, she bring in new people. She also speaks to us in a very aggressive way,” a worker from the factory said.

Chai Moon Sports (Myanmar) is employing around 700 workers and manufacturing brands like KARRIMOR and CAMPRI, and is known as a branch of Haker Factory.

Workers are calling on the factory’s management to take responsibility and resolve these practices.
