Workers from Full Way garment factory which locates at No 83, Min Ayar Street, Shwe Than Lwin Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon region said that they are not get paid notice fee for 1 month and the seniority wages and 197 workers are get paid only damages and February’s wages.

They told that the factory would close only for a month starting January 1st and only the allowance and basic salary for January is given in February 5th and the workers were called in February 28th with the reason to pay the wages but instead pay the closure damages.

“They told that those who don’t come between 10:00 to 12:00 will not be given and they give the damages instead when we arrive. They give only the basic wages for 6 months for workers with more than 9 years of service. They don’t give any other benefits. We lost our seniority and notice wages and the government officials also told us to satisfy with what we got in the hard times,” said the workers.

The factory is owned by a Chinese national and manufacturing sub orders from other factories although it was a factory that operates with its own orders.

“They don’t give annual leave in previous years with the reasons of much orders. We got only 170,000 kyats in the last issued salary. The total numbers of workers are 197. We had worked during the annual leave for free in previous years. It is a great lost for us. Although we are not satisfied with the calculation of basic salary in the damages we have just to accept it as we can’t do anything,” said the workers.

More than 150 workers in the factory are women and some of them are married women and pregnant women.

There are many senior workers in the factory and a worker with 9 years of service is given only 1,100,000 kyats including February and damages for 6 months.

The workers said the amount of damage is only enough for a worker who worked 10 years to spend only for 3 months and they would find difficulty to find a new job due to their age.

The workers also sent mails to official departments via WCC to get the seniority and notice fees.

“I spent 9 years here and get paid only 11 lakhs of damages. I think the factory is unfair upon the workers. The workers spent years and they should be given according to their seniority. The owner didn’t come himself but sent a representative. The labor office cannot resolve these problems. There are laws if we do any mistakes but where are for employers,” said the worker.
