Jiashihao Myanmar Limited workers said that the factory cut the social security fees from their wages every month but they can’t take social security leaves and other leaves as well and they are also asked to manufacture excessive fabric outputs.
The factory is owned by a Chinese national and operating at Khaya Street, Shwe Pyi Thar Industrial Zone 1 with more than 1,000 workers.
Workers have to pay 2,200 kyats per month as a social security fees and they go to the social security clinic with their own plans for health issues. Although the clinic give them medical certificate to take leave the factory doesn’t recognize it and cut their wages.
“We are not entitled to not only medical leaves but also other leaves such as casual leave. The officials don’t permit us to take leave for emergency reasons and cut daily wages 5,600 kyats and attendance bonus 10,000 kyats and other expert fees from out salary,” said the worker.
They are also asked excessive fabric outputs and a cavity with 30 workers including the supervisors have to manufacture 60 jacket per hour. That rate equals to 480 jackets for a day with 8 working hours which can be noted as a worker have to manufacture 16 jackets per day but the wages they get paid are only 5,800 kyats per day including the 1,000 kyats stipend from the government.
“We even have to work overtime 2 hours to cover our expenses. We have to work 10 hours a day,” said a female worker who don’ want to be named.
The worker said the fabric outputs are unfairly asked from the factory officials and the supervisors such as all supers and supers verbally abuse them while asking for it and the workers who made quality failed fabric have to sign a warning despite how hard they worked.
“Expert fees are set as 50,000 kyats for A, 40,000 kyats for B and 20,000 kyats for C but those who are convenient with the supers and all supers get paid instead of those who really proficient. These are discriminations and we also don’t have enough dinning tables which make us eat uncomfortably,” said the worker.
The workers also explained that there is no trade union to address the workplace disputes.
The workers said that they want to request to give then legal benefits and leaves, to only ask the fabric outputs which are inline with their productivity, to reinforce required man power in the cavities and the all supers and supers to not verbally abuse.
