Workers from Chinese national owned Tianjin Fashion Milestone factory which is manufacturing Sinsay , VERO MODA and LC WAIKIKI and locates at Seik Kan Thar Street, Shwe Lin Ban Industrial Zone, Hlaing Thar Yar Township, Yangon said that there are many labor right abuses in the factory.
The workers said that there is no manager so that the Coc woman manage both the two sub factory and her permit is required to go out for emergency issues. They are also asked personal questions for that. They said that Coc woman interfere in unrelated issues too.
According to the workers the factory doesn’t provide enough dinning chairs and not give them even the full minutes of 30 minutes dinning time. The all supers are ready to scold them to go back to work as soon as they finished eating. They tell the workers not to have a meal if the workers don’t get a good hourly fabric rate. 500 kyats for quality failed fabrics are cut by the B-5 super from the B-sub factory and the usage of those fines are not transparent.
Workers are not entitled to any leaves and they cause 35,000 kyats of their salary for taking a single day of leave. Also, many under ages including the B-4 super’s daughter are hired and some of them use fake identity cards. The buses are also not sufficient for all workers and male workers who ride behind are nearly fall down often.
“A-Sub factory Daw Mya Mya Htwe, although a stuff herself, she always dehumanize the workers and verbally abusing all the time. B-4 and B-5 supers are in this scope too. They swear us very rudely. The mechanic all super Min Min verbally harass the female workers and the girls feel much uncomfortable because of him,” said the workers.
There are also overtime issues in the factory. The factory usually force all night overtimes to packing, iron and seamstress workers. The last time was on 26th March. There are some workers who don’t agree on overtime but they are pressurized by the supervisors. There is a workplace coordination team but they don’t address the workplace disputes,” the workers said.
The workers from Tianjin Fashion Milestone are seeking for help for their rights being abused by the factory.
