A worker who was suddenly dismissed without severance pay from Ooredoo Myanmar Limited, located on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road, Bahan Township, Yangon, has filed a lawsuit against the company. The court hearing has been rescheduled to February 25.

The dismissed employee had been working as an FTTH Senior Manager at Ooredoo Myanmar. The worker was terminated without prior notice and was not granted legal entitlements, leading to the lawsuit.

“At the February 4 hearing, the plaintiff had to testify under oath and answer questions from the opposing party. The next hearing is scheduled for February 25, when the defendant company is expected to submit its defense statement,” said a source close to the worker.

Following the unlawful dismissal, the worker initially filed a complaint with the relevant authorities. The case went through two mediation meetings with the Department of Labour and the Department of Labour Relations, three sessions with the Bahan Township Arbitration Body and ne session with the Department of Labour.

Despite six attempts at mediation, Ooredoo Myanmar refused to settle the dispute and opted for a legal resolution, leading to the lawsuit.

The legal proceedings began on December 10, 2024, with the eighth hearing held at the court. The upcoming twelfth hearing on February 25 will require Ooredoo Myanmar to submit its defense statement.

Ooredoo Myanmar claims the dismissal was in accordance with the Employment Contract (EC) terms, stating that the employee was required to submit a resignation letter to be eligible for only one month’s notice pay, without any additional severance compensation.

Ooredoo Myanmar Limited is a Qatar-based telecommunications company that was among the first foreign telecom operators to enter Myanmar, officially launching its operations in January 2014.
