A worker from U BEAUTY CO,LTD which locates at Ayar Street, Hlaing Thar Yar Industrial Zone (5), Yangon Region said that they are working without protective equipment in the factory due to their livelihoods.

“The workplace is very dangerous. Some wigs have to be cleaned with acid to make them washable. We have to use academy rust remover for that. The factory does not provide us with the safety equipment. They only give a thin glove and mask but not the glasses. We have to smell the noxious odors while washing which makes our eyes burn, vomit and skin avulsed. It is very dangerous,” said the worker.

The U BEAUTY CO,LTD is owned by a Chinese national and operating with more than 30 workers for more than a year but the trade union and the WCC haven’t formed yet.

Most workers are day laborers and they are not guaranteed to be appointed as permanent stuffs even after working for 2 months but layoff with no reason. The day laborers only get paid 150,000 kyats per month and the permanent workers from 200,000 to 220,000 kyats.

There is no slip for the salary and no contribution to the social security as well. The workers are not entitled to leaves in addition of being scolded by the factory owner who is managing the business their selves.
