The workers said that the TOE TET GARMENT CO.,LTD factory in the corner Sat Mu street and Thitsar(Kyaung) street, No.1(ward), Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon is not only hiring child labors, but also not paying wages to workers under the age of 18 upon relocating the factory.
"They are not yet 18 years old but the service is almost 3 years. The employees of the factory were not allowed to enjoy holidays, seniority leaves and also money equivalent for that. On December 1, the they host cavity meetings. The line leaders said that the factory will close the factory on January 5th and move to Hleku. They also said that the factory will not give anything to the employees who do not want to follow," said one of the workers. Around 160 workers are working in the factory, including many workers underage workers.
On the afternoon of December 5th, the HR manager of TOE TET GARMENT CO.,LTD factory called a meeting of all the factory employees and told them that the factory will be moved to Hleku township. As the factory will be relocated, the factory will be closed on January 5th, so it is said that they will the factory closing compensation according to seniority by two times.
However, it is reported that those who are above 18 years and have a self-sufficiency card will be given seniority compensation, while the rest of the employees under the age of 18 will not be given.
The workers said that the TOE TET GARMENT CO.,LTD factory has many workers under the age of 18, and they have not been given a social security card, nor signed an EC contract.
Currently, factory workers are pressured, intimidated, yelled, humiliate in front of others for absenting and made to resign themselves by factory managers and line leaders. It is also reported that the factory site in Hleku township which will be relocated, is being cleaned, and as the officials have ordered the cleaning work, the current workers have to go for cleaning works.
