We are workers from the Tianjin Fashion Milestone garment factory.
The B building supervisor is forcibly calling for overtime. We are forced to work until 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays. We are told not to come to work at all if we can't work. In times when jobs are scarce, saying things like this is a form of threat. Even though we don't want to work overtime, we are made to do so.
When we say we can’t do overtime, she says, “You girls always give excuses. If you can’t work overtime, don’t come. Don’t come tomorrow either. You girls are just giving excuses,” in a very harsh manner.
That supervisor at the factory speaks very rudely. Her words are unbearable even among women. The verbal abuse is too much to hear.
The overtime we work amounts to around 100 hours per month. It never goes below 90 hours. It's no less than 20 hours a week.
Even though the workers don’t want to do overtime, we are forced to because of fear of the supervisor. We report the working conditions through the factory’s suggestion box. We submit complaints.
But even after reporting, nothing changes.
HR managers and the WCC also don’t help or speak up. Reporting to the HR manager doesn't make any difference. Reporting to the WCC is the same. As they don’t do anything, workers are left facing the supervisor’s pressure and verbal abuse, and are forced to work all the overtime demanded.
We ask for help, please.
