The labours of Solamoda 2 (Myanmar Sunview) Garment Factory at Daw Phwar Shin Street, Shwe Pyi Thar township, when the factory was temporarily closed due to a fire, negotiated for the first time to get compensation for the factory closure, but they have not yet reached a settlement, so will continue to negotiate.
The second negotiation with the employer will be held at the beginning of September. We have already reached an agreement on (2) of the (3) requests that they requested. The last thing that remains to be negotiated is the compensation claim for the period from 15-3-2021 to 31-12-2021. If the 9-and-a-half-month salary is deducted from the half-month salary set by the Council, wages for 9 months remain.
“STUM hopes that it will be able to get a final solution during this negotiation," said STUM, which is participating in the negotiations, through social media.
The second round of negotiations will continue in early September and STUM also encourages the labours to communicate with their line super and leaders to discuss their final acceptable results.
The first round of negotiations was held last July 16 and 19 in between all Super, Lines Supers, Leaders who are working at the time of fire at Solamoda 2 (Myanmar Sunview) garment factory, officials from STUM, the officials sent by Solamoda group and the officials from the factory.
In that discussion and negotiation, according to the previous demands of the labours
1. Annual severance pay
2. Notice wages for one month.
3. To give interim damages (from 14-3-2021 to 31-12-2021)
And the negotiation was not completely succussed as the employer agreed to No(1) and No(2) but failed for No(3), according to STUM.
The factory was operating with over 1,000 labours when a fire broke out on March 14, 2021, and despite having fire insurance, the factory was temporarily closed without paying compensation to the labours.
A fire broke out on March 14, when the political situations were not stable, and for more than five months, the employers were not informed about the situation going forward, and labours did not receive their wages.
