The Minister of Defense, a member of the Military Council, said on May 20 that they are preparing to recruit militia service training batch 3.

He spoke at the coordination meeting of the Central Committee for Public Service Recruitment held at the Ministry of Defense in Nay Pyi Taw.

The militia service law is currently being drafted and said at that it will be submitted to the Union Government for approval through the Security, Law and Order Committee.

The military council has said that 5,000 citizens will be recruited every batch, and currently, they have recruited up to 2 batches.

"The head of ward administration and members asked for 10 thousand kyats per household in the neighborhood for personal replacement. I don't know whom they will replace. I don't know which batch. We had to give the money as there is no one in the eligible age in our family," said a resident of Myeik.

In addition to this, up to 60,000 people will be recruited for military service, and there are over 6 million men and 7 million women in the country, a total of nearly 14 million are eligible for military service, according to a spokesman for the Military Council.

Due to the demand for labor force in the country after the conscription, some factories are raising wages to hire workers, and some foreign companies are saying that there is a shortage of labor force in the country. CJ, the Korean chicken hatchery industry, has announced that it will temporarily stop operations in Myanmar.

"It is true that there is labor shortage because of the military service law. Another thing is the low wages. Many people are trying to go to abroad," said a labor activist.

All those who fail to attend the military service call-up will be dealt with according to the existing law, and the Minister of Defense of the Military Council has also instructed to start the 3rd batch before reaching the target.
