The employer shrinks responsibility regarding the hand injury incident of the underage worker

According to Solidarity of Trade Unions, Myanmar (STUM), an underage worker is taking an osteosynthesis treatment as they injured their hand while working at a plastic pellets company at Thanmani 8 Ward, Sar Tike (In front of the climate office) bus stop, Kabbar Aye Road.

It is reported that Aung Pyae Sone, who works as a general worker before reaching 18 years old was injured at work on January 23 at around 10:00 PM and is being treated at the North Okkalapa (Maydarwe) hospital.

“The incident happened at night due to having to work until the night. We assumed this incident occur as he is forcing to work continuously. It’s on his right hand. The factory said on yesterday that they can complaint to wherever they like. The child’s parents are motorbike taxi drivers, they are under privileged. For the medical costs, 80,000 kyats for the doctor and 40,000 kyats for the caretaker have paid. It is known that child did not have anything to eat yesterday as the expenses are not covered,” said the STUM official.

The operation was done at the night the incident happened and osteosynthesis treatment is done for thumb, index finger and middle finger of the right hand. STUM said that the factory owner is still unknown and it is being managed by the factory manager.

“There are only around 10 workers. He is recircuited via some people from the neighborhood. It is said that even his parents were not known yet when he started to work. They also don’t know his salary. It has just around 1 month Aung Pyae Sone started to work. There are many SME businesses in the neighborhood. They do not contribute the social security and workers eat and stay in the workplaces in these kinds of businesses,” they said.

The STUM team said that they will continue to provide necessary medical treatment to Aung Pyae Sone and will help to take the effective action against the employer.
