As HONG MIAO Garment Co; Ltd factory which locates in No.4 Road, Thar Du Kan Industrial Zone, Shwe Pyi Thar Township, Yangon Division has been closed, around 300 labours waited overnight in the factory to receive their wages, but the employer neglected and keep transporting the equipment.

In addition, the HR has opened a case at the Hlaw Kar police station against 2 of the labours who stayed overnight at the factory last night for stealing linen.

Currently, the labours have negotiated to receive their September wages and compensation for the closure of the factory, but they have not yet reached a settlement, and the labours say that they are seeing equipment being taken out of the factory.

Two labours were arrested and charged with theft. This is also a fake accusing one. We waited all night, but the employer didn't ask anything. No one came to ask including ministers and heads of the labor office. The employer did not say anything specific. The equipment in the factory is already being transported. The people they summoned were also there all night. They came and asked us frequently. As they were drunk, we sat on the front row and keep the girls behind. They came and asked if we were okay. They keep taking pictures," said a labour.

The factory will pay September's wages on October 5th for the departure but the labours wanted September's wages to be issued as soon as the factory closed, and they waited outside at the factory because they wanted to wait two days off and get their wages on October 2nd. But without a solution, it is reported that they are transporting the materials in the factory on the morning of October 3rd.

Even though they had to wait overnight in the factory, the employer and the labor office opened a case of theft against the two workers instead of resolving and about 20 administrators and police officers recruited by the employer waited 200 meters in front of the factory workers and questioned them exactly four times.

Despite this presence, the employer did not negotiate with the workers, nor did officials from the Ministry of Labor come to ask questions, so the workers had to wait overnight inside the factory, and the employer also called the police.

“The factory is closed. Salary will be issued on the 5th of October. Those who could received compensation are told to came and take at 26th. Labours with more than 1 year service will be paid a compensation of 1 month ration and those who work for 6 months will be paid half of a month. The rest of the labours would not get anything. The labours want to get their salary as soon as it closes. The factory is closed, so we are not sure. They didn't tell us exactly where and when they would issue the salary,” said another labour.

As upon the factory’s departure the labours are appealing to give compensation for all of them, to give social security benefits to the pregnant women and also to give the tap servicers.

Before the closure the factory is manufacturing the Fieldcore Brand and other orders and when the labours formed a union to resolve the violations inside the workplace, the employer didn’t recognize the union and fired the leaders and members and later they issued a statement for the closure.

The latest information is that more than 380 labours have not yet been paid their September wages. It was announced on September 26 that the factory would be closed, but operations were suspended on September 29 and no exact details about paying the compensations have not yet expressed.
