The workers from Beaume International Garment factory which locates in Phan Chat Wun U Shwe Oo Street, Industrial Zone (2), Hlaing Thar Yar Township said that the employer called the military and police during workplace dispute.
The factory operates in the same yard with POPULAR International Garment and opened new with the name of Beaume and it has been more than 3 years to assign the workers in both factories.
The workers are not exactly knowing which factory hire them and wants their service seniority to be recorded clearly. The employer and the employee settle a negotiation on January 31st.The employer calls the military and the police during the meeting and no agreements were reached until 21:00.
The workers said that they are assigned in both factories and being asked 50 to 60 fabric per hour and the all supers and supers are scolding them are verbally abusing them in the workplace.There is no trade union in the factory to address the workplace disputes.
The workers said that there are day laborers who aren’t promoted to permanent stuffs until 8 or 9 months of service and the have causalities as they are dismissed whenever there are low number of orders and get paid only 4,800 kyats daily wage and 600 kyats per hour for overtime.
The underage workers are also assigned in tasks that are completely out of line with the health standards and the workplace lack safety measures due to the odors.
They are cut for 5,800 kyats daily wages, 27,000 kyats attendance bonus due to not getting access to legal leaves. The workers are also forced to work all light and all night overtime without informing in advance and those who refuse to work are discriminated against.
The workers said that they want to request the employer to recognize the seniorities at the Popular factory and to legalize working at Beaume factory, the employer to give the workers casual leave, not to force to workers all evening and all night overtime without informing in advance, to eliminate the workplace odors, to appoint the day laborers with more than 3 months of service as permanent workers and to give full assess of daily wages and overtime fees, to ask only the possible fabric outputs from the workers, the employer to not call the soldiers and polices who are irreverent while employer and employees are negotiating.
The factory is a Chinese owned factory which is manufacturing I’Z FRONTIER, THE TOUGH, Beaume, Royal Mail brands jackets, warm cloths and jean pants with more than 1,100 workers.
