Sunrise (Myanmar) fashion factory exceeded the law and calls overtime, forced the workers to lie to inspection teams

The Sunrise (Myanmar) fashion garment factory forced them to work overtime beyond the law, and also asked them to give false answers when the inspection teams came to examine them, the workers said.

"Overtime is called every month. In previous months, they called until 9 pm. Currently, it is said that due to the political situation, there are some military drafting, they call until 12 o'clock at night. Now in December, we only have 2 days off, National Day and Christmas Day. Sundays are not off. Line Super will call us one by one if we don’t work overtime. They took the name and scold us seriously. The workers are now weak, due to excessive overtimes," a worker said.

The Sunrise (Myanmar) fashion garment factory which have been reported for the 4th time this year because of calling for excessive overtime. forcing to work strict overtimes without the will of the workers, demoting the grades and cutting the rights if refuse, discriminating, not paying hourly wages, using slanders, letting the workers sleep messily in the workplace and not providing a ferry on way back home.

We reported frequently and the total inspection was 6 times in this month, The labor office and the brand representative came to inspect. They asked us to lie. They told us to lie that we didn't have to work overtime. They told us to lie that we only work overtime for one Sunday through the whole month. They called a meeting in the office with all the supers. When they come back from there, they call the workers and teach how to tell them,” said a worker.

Workers say that the working hours of the Sunrise Myanmar fashion factory are from Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, and they have to work overtime until 7:00 pm.

In addition to having to work 4 hours overtime on Saturday, the workers said that they had to work until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, so there was no rest day. The workers also said that the supers, all supers and the Chinese national technical experts are also oppressing the workers.

“They don’t survey our consents upon working overtime. And we can take leave only if we have 4 signatures of super, Chinese expert, manager and factory officer. They make it difficult to take a leave. There is no legal benefits in this factory. We almost don’t get a single day off as they do not inspect well. It is also difficult to get a gate pass. Officials do not negotiate the violations of the labor law by the factory. The workers are suffering from it,” said a worker.

Workers said that the officials of Sunrise Myanmar fashion garment factory gave only one day of casual leave, and the next days were designated as non-working days, and the daily wages, attendance bonus and professional grades bonuses are cut.

It is also known that around 1,000 workers are working in the factory and no trade union.

The workers also said that WCC is formed but they do not have confidence because it is biased towards the factory.

The workers said that the factory is manufacturing brands such as LOBAL WORK, WOLLYTEC, CINEMA CLUB, HARE, LEPSIL, URBAL FUNCTION , SINCE 1930 UNITED ATHLA, FINO-OUT, LOWRYS FARM and AIRTHERMAL.
